BLOG SOFTWARE AND DESIGNER

This site is designed and kept in reasonable running order by Jé Maverick, on WordPress software. The theme is called Maverick, is very basic, but has everything that this site needs.

DESKTOP

All site images are optimized with the fantastic PNGOUT, a handy utility that reduces page and server load over the long term with minimal fuss and bother. The images were first carefully prepared under strictly sterile conditions using Photoshop It's all been hand-coded in the excellent, excellent, excellent text editor, Note Tab Light. Nothing compares to its monumental greatness. The free colorpicker from AllGraphicsTools.com also came in handy for getting the shades of gray just right, and these Screen Calipers were just what I needed to get it all pixel perfect. Once it was all completed, I used the free FTP software Filezilla, generously offered by the good folk of the Filezilla Project.

USABILITY & STANDARDS

WAMP server on the local machine is used for testing on all major browsers, with additional tests run through great free web services, browsershots.org and screen-resolution.com. Additional usability testing was done with Thunder Screenreader

The site has been tested for coding, css, and rss bugs at the following places: XHTML Validator, CSS Validator, and RSS Feed Validator. No bugs were present at the time of testing, and the code was standards compliant. However, I tinker a fair bit, so if you find something that messes around with your browsing experience, let me know on the contact page.

TYPE DESIGN

The main site graphics use the striking font Aphrodite Pro, complete with sexy ligatures and swashes. The standard font specified in the style sheet is the Microsoft font Calibri, which, if you do not possess on your computer, will be viewed as Arial. If you have neither, your system's default sans-serif will be used. If you desire to get a copy of Calibri on your WIndows system you must download either Power Point Viewer 2007 or as part of the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint File Formats. If you are on a Mac, then you can download the files as part of the Open XML File Format Converter for Mac 1.0.

HOSTING, DOMAINS

The site is hosted on a VPS by the wonderful and incredibly supportive folk at Flexihostings, and the domain is provided by GoDaddy. The site is driven by PHP, MySQL, Apache, all run out of CPanel and PHP MyAdmin front ends, and all mixed together in the guts of a UNIX machine.
